ARMEL DUPAS PIANO SOLO
MUSIC FROM BRODERIES, A NIGHT WALK, UPRIVER, AND MORE...
Pianist, composer, sensitive artist, custodian of a minimalist universe crossed with serial nuances that bear the occasional colours of nostalgia: Armel Dupas is all these things at once. A lover of sketches, whose inner songs trace a single landscape: that of the melodies that inhabit it.
After Upriver and A Night Walk, his first two solo albums with their accents of electro-jazz, and in parallel with collaborations with filmmakers Michel Gondry, Arnaud Desplechin and Christophe Honoré, the pianist Armel Dupas reunites with the stark beauty of solo piano in Broderies. A new opus conceived along neo-classical lines, inspired by the French masters Debussy and Satie, Broderies leads the listener through cinematographic landscapes that summon, in turn, nostalgia for childhood, the promise of the future, and the spell of a moment suspended in time. Manifesting a return to the essentials, this is an album that does not fail to move, thanks to the sensitivity of the pianist’s performance. The 11 short works were recorded in the studios of the young label Stereodisque, on Armel's childhood piano. The composition has been entrusted to the musician and composer Lisa Cat-Berro. Lisa has written an album that is tailor-made for him, woven from the deep friendship that binds them and from a definite taste for a clear melodic line.
